FFP2 masks - what you need to know

FFP2 masks are defined Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are used to filter pathogens (viruses, bacteria and dust) from the air we breathe. The greater the filtering factor, the greater the protection from pathogens, but also the greater the difficulty in inhaling.
PPE are classified into levels: FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3, (FFP stands for Filtering Face Pier, in Italian we can translate it as "filtering power") which indicate the filtering capacity.
The main difference between the 3 levels is in the filtering power of particles larger than 0.6 microns: (1 micron is equivalent to one thousandth of a millimeter!)
  • DPI FFP1 filter at least 80%
  • DPI FFP2 filter at least 94% (this model)
  • DPI FFP3 filter at least 99%
In fact, the masks are also indicated for the respiratory protection of all healthcare workers or people exposed in particular activities such as access to rooms in respiratory isolation, emergency personnel and consultations for potentially contagious patients, work in companies and laboratories in which mycobacteria are processed and analyzed.

Features of the FFP2 mask on promotion

Filter performance: = 95% measures the reduction of specific aerosol concentrations in the air passing through the filter.
Test Agent: NaCl (Sodium Chloride) the aerosol generated during the filter performance test.
Total inward leakage (TIL): = 8% (individual average and arithmetic) the amount of a specific aerosol that enters the facepiece of the respirator tested through both penetration and facial leak filters, while the wearer performs a series of exercises in a test chamber. Inhalation resistance - maximum pressure: = 350 Pa

Storage conditions

It should be kept in a place with good ventilation, clean, dry, avoiding humidity and exposure to contaminants.

Useful life

It varies according to the type of contaminant, its concentration, the user's respiratory rate, the relative humidity of the environment and the storage of the product by the user. Therefore this variable must always be evaluated by the person responsible for determining the use of PPE. It must be changed whenever it is saturated (clogged), punctured, torn or with loose or broken rubber band or when the user senses the smell or taste of the contaminant. No repairs or maintenance must be performed on the product. Under specified stock conditions (not in use), its validity is 3 years from the date of manufacture.
